Baby Dedication Keepsakes

Baby Dedication Keepsakes

When Christian parents give birth to a child, their greatest desire for that child is usually that he or she will love, trust, and follow God. The parents will pray for their child, teach their child, and do all they can to ensure the child has a real knowledge of who God is and what He can do.

One of the things parents may do is to ceremoniously dedicate the life of the child to the Lord Jesus. This is often done in the church, either as a part of the regularly scheduled service or as a stand-alone ceremony. In this ceremony, parents recognize that children are a gift from God and He has given them the responsibility to raise the child to honor God.

Many pastors will provide some degree of pre-dedication counselling to aid the parents in knowing exactly what will happen and what their part should be in the training of the child. Depending on the religious denomination of the parents, they may choose godparents for the child, as well, who serve to help with the child’s spiritual upbringing and learning. These godparents may also become legal guardians in the case of the parents’ early demise, though not all parents take the relationship to this extent.

Having a keepsake from this ceremony can be a precious memory for parents, and a great way to introduce the child to the concept as understanding develops. These can be items used during the ceremony or reminders of what happened in the form of a book, Bible, music box, frame, or any of a number of other options. Some ideas and available keepsake items are suggested below.
