Businesses You Didn’t Know Were Christian

Many consumers may not realize that some of the big brands are influenced by Christian beliefs and devotion. It is one proof that God is a driving force and an inspiration even in this seemingly worldly field of business. It’s refreshing to see that these businesses put God at the center of their operations. Hopefully, these successful companies will inspire you to be guided by Christian values when you are about to start your own business.

Curious to know which these brands are? Click on this gallery to find out, and you will be likely surprised and amazed!

Wal-Mart

The Walton family has applied its religious beliefs in establishing the world’s biggest retail chain. It is known for its tradition of servicing specifically to the churchgoers, which make up a large percentage of Walmart’s large customer base. This is why Walmart has been long selling Christian books and other kinds of media, which proves to be hugely successful for the retail chain.

Carls-Jr

Carl’s Jr,’s founder, Carl Karcher was an active Roman Catholic. In fact, he was a member of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (a lay religious order) and one of his sons became an ordained priest. He applied his faith to his day-to-day operations and transactions. Even after his death in 2008, the company still adheres to the policy of saying a prayer and an oath of allegiance before meetings.

Terminix

Terminix, a subsidiary of ServiceMaster, is the country’s biggest pest control company. It has also launched other brands like Merry Maids and American Home Shield. It was founded in 1929 by an ex-minor league baseball player Marion E. Wade, who was also a devout Christian. He made his business thrive by incorporating his personal faith as well as a desire to honor the Lord in everything that He did.

Jet-Blue

JetBlue is currently one of the biggest airlines in the United States. The company was founded in the late 1990s by David Neeleman, who is also a devout Mormon. And like all Mormons, Neeleman has done previous missionary work (he once traveled to Brazil). And that’s the reason why Neeleman always puts people first and thus prioritizes quality customer service.

Aside from its headquarters in New York, JetBlue also has a corporate office in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hobby-Lobby

Hobby Lobby is the biggest chain of arts and crafts stores in the United States. It was founded in 1972 by David Green, the son of an Assemblies of God minister. According to Green himself, he built his business out of Christian and biblical principles. It is closed on Sundays.  If you are looking to find a hobby or pursue one, this is a great place to start.

Tyson-Foods

Many may not realize it, but Tyson is quite a religious company. It was founded by a devout Christian, John Tyson, in 1935. It is so religious that it has employed a team of chaplains to provide spiritual guidance — or “compassionate pastoral care” — to its employees.

Interstate-Batteries

Interstate Batteries (established in 1952) says their purpose is to “glorify God and enrich lives as we deliver the most trustworthy source of power to the world.” Norm Miller left his position as the company president and moved to chairman so that it would allow more time for him to devote to his Christian mission.

Jack-In-the-BoxYou may not have noticed it at first, but take a closer look at the logo. The “O” and the “X” are fused together into a Jesus fish.

Alaska-Airlines

Alaska Airlines used to hand out inspirational Biblical note cards to each of the customers’ during in-flight breakfasts. The company put a halt to its practice recently.

Mary-Kay

Company founder Mary Kay Ash credited the company’s success by taking “God as our partner.” She expressed her religious devotion in her autobiography: “God has blessed us because our motivation is right. He knows I want women to be the beautiful creatures he created.”

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A’s founder, S. Truett Cathy (1921-2014), was a devout Southern Baptist. His conservative Christian values are one of the recipes for Chick-fil-A’s success. Recently Chick-fil-A made headlines with its stance on gay marriage. It closes on Sundays so that employees can have the chance to attend church and spend quality time with their families.

Forever-21

Korean-born Americans Do “Don” Won Chang and his wife Jin Sook are the founders of the global clothing store Forever 21. The Changs are devout Christians, which explains why the famous Bible verse “John 3:16” is at the bottom of every shopping bag. This is a reference to the Bible passage, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

In-N-Out-Burger

Aside from Chick-fil-A, In-N-Out Burger is another fast-food chain to incorporate its founders’ religious leanings on its recipes. For instance, you may find the verse “John 3:16” on the bottom of the soft drink cups, or “Revelation 3:20” on their food wrappers.
