Facts About Galatians

Also known as the “Epistle to the Galatians,” the Book of Galatians’ authorship is among the least disputed in the Bible. It is no doubt that it is the apostle Paul who wrote this letter, which could be possibly his first. He addressed this epistle to the early Christians in Galatia — out of deep concern towards a religious crisis that was happening at that time. Through this letter, Paul reprimanded the Galatian churches for quickly abandoning the gospel they had heard him preach, and initially accepted.

The Judaizers, who had insinuated their way into the Galatian churches, insisted to the Gentile Christians that salvation could be attained by keeping the Mosaic Law (Law of Moses). Paul argued that that was a completely different (and obsolete) gospel. He wrote the letter to remind the early Christians that salvation can be obtained through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and not by “doing the works of the law.”
