Like many other books in the Old Testament, the Book of Zephaniah has a combination of history and prophesy. Zephaniah, the prophet who authored this book, most likely had a royal lineage. He even might have belonged to the house of David. This probable royal ancestry made him somewhat unusual among all the other Hebrew prophets.
Zephaniah wrote this book around 630 BC, just before the fall of Judah. In this book, Zephaniah is called upon by God to send His warning of impending judgment, as well as to encourage them to repent before Him.
