A rectangular limestone block was discovered during the 1990s. Containing 5 lines and 71 characters, the inscriptions mention the city of Ekron. Thus the stone confirms the city’s existence as well as its five rulers. It is the first archaeological find that is connected with the Philistines, based on the Ekron’s identity as a Philistine city mentioned in the Bible.
