The 1 Kings is the first book of the Books of Kings. Although it doesn’t specifically mention the author, tradition states that it was written by prophet Jeremiah. The books is a continuation of the history of nation, Israel and begins with David’s death and Solomon’s subsequent rise to kingship. The kingdom starts out as a united nation, but splits into two nations, Israel and Judah. It also documents Solomon’s fall because he defies God by taking too many wives and concubines and worshipping their false gods.
Among the things that this book teaches us is obeying one real God and repentance of our sins.
