Also known as the Song of Songs, Canticles or the Canticle of Canticles, the “Book of Song of Solomon”‘s name is derived from its first verse: “The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s.” King Solomon’s name is mentioned a few times here, that’s why the book later adopted the king’s name as part of its title. This also led to the traditional perception that King Solomon himself wrote the book.
For those who aren’t much familiar with the Bible, you’d be surprised that the Book of Song of Solomon contains scriptures that frankly detail sexual love — about how the bride and the groom passionately delight in each other. Some say that the book “is all about sex.” But in the same breath, the Book of Song of Solomon also celebrates the sanctity of marriage and may leave valuable lessons for couples out there.
Some experts interpret the romantic love between two people as a thinly-veiled representation of the relationship between God and His creatures, or between Jesus Christ and his “bride,” which is the Christian church.
