Interesting Facts about the Papacy

Dressing-the-Pope

The newly elected and installed pope follows the tradition of making his first public appearance before the crowd from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. Of course, he has to look fabulous for this historic moment. There are three sets of identical white outfits being prepared for the new pontiff — in small, medium and large — and nuns had to quickly alter them before he will be seen by the outside world for the first time.

The dresses are provided by the Gammarelli family of tailors. They have been in the papal fashion business for the past 200 years.
