Interesting Facts about the Papacy

Black-Pope

Many of the Catholic faithful are still hoping that one day they will be able to see the first black Roman Catholic pope in the nearly 2,000-year history of the papacy.

However, the early book of the papal biographies named Liber Pontificalis gives the indication that some of the early popes may have been black. The 4th-century pontiff Pope Miltiades may have been an African born in Rome. Apart from Miltiades, there are other popes, Victor I (c. 189-199 AD in office) and Gelasius (492-496 A.D. in office), who may have also been considered as of African origin, as implicated in the book.
